Widows of the Faith Ministry

Widows of the Faith was founded in 2006 by Chaplain Clydette Baker, born out of a humble act of love and service. The ministry began in a small, stand-alone apartment where two dear friends—Ms. Thelma, a widow, and Ms. Ruth, an elderly woman—would receive regular visits from Chaplain Baker. Each week, she would help with everyday tasks like taking out the trash, offering companionship, and meeting their spiritual needs by reading the Word, taking communion, and bringing thoughtful gifts.

These women often expressed feelings of loneliness and a lack of support, and it was in these intimate moments of care that the seeds of Widows of the Faith were sown. Though health challenges eventually separated them, the mission remained. Chaplain Baker continued her outreach, offering compassion and dignity to widows and elderly women who often felt forgotten.

In time, the ministry grew. She began hosting an Annual Widow’s Banquet, celebrating their strength and faith. On the 16th anniversary, veterans were added to the ministry, honoring their service with special recognition and a heartfelt salute. Every Thanksgiving, Chaplain Baker personally delivered turkeys and goodie boxes filled with essentials and loving touches to remind the recipients they are seen and valued.

Today, Widows of the Faith continues to serve in even greater capacity, touching lives and upholding the biblical mandate found in James 1:27 (KJV):

"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world."

The ministry stands as a testament to what love in action looks like—faithfully caring for the widows and the elderly, just as the Bible commands.
